SL Under the Radar Ep 36 - The Toilet Bowl Pt 2

SL Under the Radar Ep 36 - The Toilet Bowl Pt 2

In second life, you can find people who run the gamut from doing fantastic, impossible (in RL) things to those who settle for the more mundane, rarely breaking out of a RL styled existence aside from the obvious teleports and flying sprees.  This time I continue my discussions with various notable citizens to find out what’s their idea of sensible and crazy in a virtual world where anything is possible. Do they want to inject the real into the unreal, or the other way around?

In Part 2 of this discussion with various residents I know, I get to talk to Keeme Brown, Sougent Harrop, Gomem Desoto, and TheFriedGeek Althouse.

Intro music is “Under the Radar” by the band What The…? (http://www.what-the.com/).   Outro Music is “44 Lines for 22 Lindens” by Niko Donburi (http://www.nikodonburi.com).

Radar, I think the question you ask about “why do people do mundane or sinmple inside the virtual?” my best and last comment on this is - You can make great meals with the best ingredients, elaborate presentations and flavors but “sometimes meatloaf is just someones favorite food” and that is ok with them.

*Hands Radar a VR Olive Loaf sandwich with extra prim*

Geez, I really need a better mic, I sounded atrocious.

I don’t see the point in doing things like creating kitchens and toilets in SL, unless it’s as props for a build, but then again I don’t see the point in real life of having a fancy living room or dining room that you never use except maybe once or twice a year, it’s a wasted resource that could be used for something better. That attitude follows me into SL so at least I’m consistent.

I’d rather see a sim filled with interesting builds like the Clocktower of Edloe rather than a plain “residential community”. Not that I mind them, if someone want’s to fulfill a fantasy about owning a certain type of house or rollplay a suburban life, that’s all good.

Heck, if someone wants to come in and grief an area from time to time, I actually find it a refreshing change. Sure, it can be annoying, especially some of the nasty stuff that warped minds come up with, but bouncing Sponge Bob boxes with that blasted laugh can actually be a tension reliever.

Ok, so I’m strange in that regard.

My thought is that it’s the interesting and cool builds, the stuff that you aren’t going to see in real life, whether it be reconstructions of places in real life you might never get a chance to visit, or fantastic places from movies or TV that aren’t available in real life, or what have you, these are the things that will keep people interested in SL. Sure, dancing and chatting with friends is great, but I’d rather do it in a fantastic build than a dance floor thrown down on the ground. And when the friends aren’t in SL or you’re not in the mood to dance and chat, then you at least have interesting things to look at.

I can’t stop thinking about making a sculpted toilet. I think I might be able to do it with one prim. I need a challenge.
